That's a pretty good lineage imo.

A Dick Latvala DAT shared with for Dead Air's 500th radio show, KXCI 91.3 FM Tucson.

This source and many more to come provided graciously by Jim Blackwood, former Dead Air co-host. We believe it is Dick's copy of Owsleys AUD. We know more of the AUD exists , but this is what Dick chose to share with KXCI. The song list is Dick's and the tracking reflects this. (Dick split the DS into DS >Philo Stomp)

Just the Dark Star>Dew but that's nearly 44 min of 5 star quality material in this case. Other versions of this recording exist here although I don't know how many generations they were removed Bear's tape. Pretty nice sounding aud for the era.

Just got this a couple days ago and also cranked it up last night. I had no idea it was an AUD... thought it was a hissy SB the whole time.

Nice Dark Star with plenty of juicy meat on the bones. Some very nice moments of cohesion and quite a bit of meltdown. The Phil led section is wonderful and the Dew, while not one of the best-sung versions, really shines on the jams.

I dig this Dark Star but I prefer beautiful ones that really reach for the stars instead of down a whirlpool. 11-11-73, 8-27-72 come to mind for the latter day ones. Most versions in 68-71 are more melodic and more to my liking.

Ah they are all good :)

i cranked this last nite and it is very very good, and i'm not much a fan of these late era dark stars, but i have to agree with Cliff that this star is very 69/70ish, and probably why i loved it; definitely worth downloading

Subject: Indeed an extraordinary Dark Star

This haunting 1969/1970-esque Dark Star is as good as the very best from '72, and in spite of considerable hiss, this sharp audience recording could be the best from this era. (98 pts)

It should be said that this upgrade is apparently just one cassette generation less than the old file, and sounds almost identical except for fractionally less hiss:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd72-11-13.aud.hanno.10089.sbeok.shnf

Also, this upgrade has a 100-second cut in the Star that has not been patched from the alternate AUD; whereas Hanno's file is patched.

From the Hanno notes:
Dark Star 11:15 through 12:55 missing on #1 [Bear's tape]; patched from #2 [alternate AUD]

The big cut, plus the fact that there's just slightly less hiss than the older source, makes this 'upgrade' dispensible. (At least until it's patched.)

However, it's nice that its appearance is getting more people to listen to this performance....
